Be counted. Speak up. Please!

Re: Obelisk Beach (and Cobblers)

Jo,
I was reading recently about Blacks Beach in California. There has
been a lot of work done by the regulars to deal with undesirable activity.

Look up blacksbeach.org

It seems the important thing is that the regulars who are there
understand how precarious the situation is and that there is such a
strong need to take action.

I know that from what I hear when I'm at Cobblers is that people just
snigger about bad behaviour. Do they appreciate being able to be at
this beach? We could lose it.

Last summer I tried challenging a guy who was handling himself under a
newspaper he wasn't reading as he sat very close to a couple. I spoke
up when they went in for a swim. He became defensive and aggressive
and told me to butt out and leave him alone. I'm not the kind who
likes confrontation but I felt I had to give it a try. I expected him
to quit and leave but his aggressive response floored me.

At blacks beach the regulars will surround someone who is taking
photos of women and give their camera a swim in the salt water. Safety
in numbers works for them.

The other difficulty with these kind of people is their clever excuses
and denials of doing anything wrong.

I know the topic here is more about the whole hook ups that happen
around Obelisk in the bush and somewhat less around Cobblers and the
concern that the local council has about it. I don't know what the
answer is except that we need the police to raid them and there needs
to be some good signage warning them to not engage in it.

At least getting some discussion here about it might be a start.

Come on guys. Start posting here. Speak up. Summer is coming. Aren't
you looking forward to getting out there in the sun, air and water?

It might be your last season here.

Bruce
